Naloxone Administration & Overdose First Aid

This Red Cross training provides participants with the knowledge and practical skills needed to recognize and respond to opioid overdoses. The class focuses on the safe and effective administration of Naloxone (Narcan) and the critical steps of overdose first aid. Participants will leave empowered to act quickly and confidently in emergency situations to help save lives. A Red Cross certificate will be provided on successful completion of the class.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand what opioids are and how they affect the body.
  • Recognize the signs and symptoms of an opioid overdose.
  • Learn how Naloxone works to reverse an overdose.
  • Identify the different forms of Naloxone (nasal spray, injectable, etc.).
  • Safely administer Naloxone to a person experiencing an overdose.
  • Practice the steps of overdose first aid, including rescue breathing and calling for emergency help.
  • Learn post-overdose care and what to expect after administering Naloxone.
  • Understand Good Samaritan laws and legal protections for overdose responders.
